At True Oral, Facial & Dental Implant Surgery, our oral surgeon and team can see you for an appointment for bone grafting in Placerville and El Dorado Hills, California. If a tooth is missing, the jawbone does not get stimulated in that area and begins to atrophy over time. A dental implant requires a sturdy foundation to support it and cannot be placed if there is not enough jawbone density. Bone grafts promote the growth of new bone in a weakened area. This allows more patients to become candidates for dental implants. If you would like to meet with Dr. Jason Straw to see if this treatment is right for you, contact us, and one of our team members will be happy to help.

Bone grafts work by inserting a piece of bone or synthetic substitute into the area where bone has atrophied. Your body’s healing process will heal over the new bone and fill in the gaps. This process resembles filling in a void, where your body creates new bone cells to cover around the grafted material. Once you have fully healed, you have a sturdy, strong jaw and are ready to receive a dental implant.

Types of Bone Grafts in Placerville and El Dorado Hills,

The type of bone graft used will depend on your individual needs. True Oral, Facial & Dental Implant Surgery performs many types of grafting procedures using a variety of methods to ensure the most beneficial results for every patient.

Ridge Augmentation

Commonly performed after a tooth extraction, a ridge augmentation aims to recreate the natural contour of the gums that may have been lost due to decay, injury or other reasons. The alveolar ridge is the bone that surrounds the roots of teeth. When a tooth is removed, the alveolar ridge repairs itself and fills in the empty hole with bone and tissue. Sometimes, the socket breaks and is unable to heal, resulting in a misshapen ridge. Ridge augmentation can help support a dental implant and restore natural-looking aesthetics.

Sinus Lift

Your maxillary sinuses are located behind your cheeks above the upper teeth. They are empty, air-filled spaces, and some upper tooth roots extend into them. When an upper tooth is removed, there is only a thin wall of bone separating the maxillary sinus and the mouth. This does not provide much support for a dental implant and requires a sinus lift, or sinus augmentation. Our oral surgeon will place bone grafting material into the sinus floor to strengthen it. Once healed, it will serve as a healthy, strong foundation for a dental implant.

Socket Preservation

A tooth is removed for a number of reasons, including infection, damage or decay. The bone, or socket, that holds the tooth in place also suffers damage. This can lead to jaw deformities or sunken facial features and reduces the chances of successful restorative dentistry. Socket preservation preserves the bone after extraction by using a bone or substitute material to fill the socket. The socket is covered with an artificial membrane or tissue, and your body naturally heals over the socket.

Advanced Healing With Biologic Materials

We stay up to date with advances in the oral surgery field to provide an exemplary experience to our patients. We offer PRP and BMP treatments to naturally accelerate your body’s healing process. Your recovery time can be reduced, and you can return to your normal routine with comfort in knowing that your surgical site heals effectively and efficiently.

Platelet-Rich Plasma

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) exists inside your blood cells and promotes healing. Our oral surgeon can extract a small sample of blood during treatment and spin it in a centrifuge to separate the plasma. Then, the plasma is injected directly into the surgical site to expedite healing. There is no risk for cross contamination because it uses your own blood cells and stimulates the body’s natural healing process.

Bone Morphogenetic Protein

Bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) is a naturally occurring protein that helps the body form new cartilage and bone. Our oral surgeon can soak the BMP sample onto a sponge and place it where new cartilage or bone is needed, like to support a dental implant. As the sponge dissolves, the BMP jump starts the natural process of producing new bone.
